Which Items Are Weapons In The Board Game Clue?

Are you curious about which items are weapons in the board game, Clue? So was I, so I went back and took a look.

Here’s what I found.

Of the six items in Clue, only the dagger and revolver are weapons. The lead pipe, rope, candlestick, and wrench are not.

What Are The Items In The Board Game, Clue?

The items in the board game, Clue, are the revolver, dagger, lead pipe, rope, candlestick, and wrench.

What Items Are Weapons In The Board Game, Clue?

Of the items in Clue, only the revolver and dagger are weapons. The lead pipe, rope, candlestick, and wrench aren’t originally designed to be used as weapons.

Even though that’s the case, there are many endings to Clue in which the killer used one of those non-weapon items as a weapon.

What’s The Purpose Of The Little Weapon Miniatures In Clue?

The lineup of suspects and the lineup of weapons. Hey, what’s the candlestick doing over there?

Now that you know what items are and aren’t actually weapons in Clue, you may be wondering why Clue even bothers to include the little weapon miniatures in the game? It’s a good question, and it has a simple answer.

The reason why Clue has those little weapon miniatures in the game is that they’re a good reference for the players. It helps people to remember what people have guessed so far and what they’re guessing now. Also, they add a lot of flair to the game.

Board Game Flair

What do I mean by flair? So, imagine what Clue would be like if it didn’t have the board, the little weapons, the pawns, the envelope. You could still play the game; it is just a guessing game after all.

But would it be as fun? Probably not. Part of what makes Clue, and many other board games fun, is the immersion factor. In short, how much do you feel like you are a part of what’s going on in the game?

Do you feel like you’re trying to solve this mystery or are you just checking off boxes? To put it another way, imagine you were playing Monopoly. Do you feel more like you’re buying and selling properties or do you feel more like you’re just moving around collecting squares?

The more a game can immerse you in what’s going on, the more it can make you feel like you’re actually doing what’s happening in the game, and the better the game is. Not every game has to be this way, but for many of them, it elevates the game to something special.

Did You Know?

(Each time you refresh the page you will get a new “Did You Know” fact!)

Did you know that Ludo is also the name of a game? That’s why Cluedo was renamed in the US! Not as many people knew of the game, Ludo, in the US as they did in the UK, so it was felt they wouldn’t understand why the game was called Cluedo.

Something else that’s cool is that in Brazil Clue was, or maybe still is, called Detetive. And no, that’s not a misspelling either. Really cool!

Conclusion: Which Items Are Weapons In The Board Game, Clue?

So, I got a little off the rails there, but now you know which item isn’t a weapon in the board game, Clue.

I’m curious though, what do you think about the weapons in Clue? Moreover, do you like them or not like them and why? Do you think Clue could be more immersive and if so how? Let us know in the comments below!
