When Can You Make An Accusation In Clue?

The whole point of Clue (aside from winning) is to figure out who killed Mr. Boddy. You can only do this by making an accusation, but when can you make an accusation in Clue?

You can make an accusation in Clue at any time on your turn. It’s not a good idea to do it too early though. If you’re wrong, you lose and are out of the game!

An accusation in Clue is when you formally say who you think killed Mr. Boddy, what weapon they used, and where they did it. You can make an accusation at any time on your turn. The problem is that if you’re wrong, you lose the game.

When’s The Best Time To Make An Accusation?

This will depend a bit on personal preference. Some people take Clue very seriously and consider what’s going on from all possibilities. Those people may be able to make an accusation with only a few of the weapons, suspects, and rooms proven wrong on the sheets they use to keep track of them.

Other people may be able to figure out what’s going on by the cards (even hidden) that are being passed between the other players. Some people will just get lucky and have the right bit of information they need faster than anyone else.

But is there a best time to make an accusation? In the end. The best time to make an accusation is when you’re sure you know the answer, whether that’s through careful deduction, luck, or good guessing.

That way you win the game.

Is An Accusation The Only Guess I Can Make In Clue?

No, you can also make what are called suggestions. Aside from rolling and moving around the board, suggestions are the main gameplay of Clue.

Think of a suggestion like a less official accusation. You don’t lose for being wrong. In fact, some people would say the point of a suggestion is to be wrong; that way you can get the information you need to eventually win.

So, what is a suggestion? A suggestion is when, after entering a room, you name a suspect, a weapon, and the room you just entered.

After you make a suggestion, the other players, starting with the player to your left, have to slide you a facedown card to prove your suggestion wrong. If that first player can’t, then it’s up to the next player, and so on. If no one can prove you wrong, you can either end your turn or you can make an accusation! In this case, you’d want to make the accusation because you’ll win the game!
