It’s another article in the Spooky Game Spotlight series! For this Spooky Game Spotlight, I’m taking a look at Clue: Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas! So, is it spooky at all?
Clue: Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas is not spooky at all. It won’t scare people and it won’t be fun for those looking for something creepy. This is due to the fact the board doesn’t feel like the world of The Nightmare Before Christmas, the card art is a mixed bag of quality, and, overall, the game is just lacking.

How Is Clue: Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas Spooky?
It’s not. I hate to rag on this game even more than I already have and will in the future, but one more problem to add to its list of many problems is the fact that it’s not spooky. It’s not spooky in a way that makes someone afraid, and it’s not spooky in a way that is fun.
It just isn’t spooky.
It could’ve been. The Nightmare Before Christmas definitely has a spooky charm to it, but almost none of that charm is present in this game. What little there is comes from some of the art on the cards, and the fact that if you squint hard at the game board, you can almost see that world you remember and love so well.
Is Clue: Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas Worth Playing?
Not unless you’re desperate for a mix of Clue and The Nightmare Before Christmas. If you’re not, I’d wait or look for another game that uses that intellectual property.
Who Would Most Enjoy Clue: Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas?
Maybe those who don’t really care about the art in a board game too much. The art’s not absolutely terrible. It definitely communicates what it needs to, it just lacks the style of the film (except for some of the cards), and what replaces it is not good.
Collectors might also like this version of Clue, as well as those who are just looking for a new version of Clue. Maybe families with kids who enjoy the film, but I still think you’d be better off just watching the movie again.
Did You Know?
(Each time you refresh the page you will get a new “Did You Know” fact!)
Did you know that Pachisi/Parcheesi/Ludo inspired more games too? As it turns out, both Sorry and Trouble are variants of the originals. Really cool!
Conclusion: Clue: Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas
So, there you have it, the sad truth that in this Spooky Game Spotlight not only is Clue: Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas not very spooky, but it’s also not a great adaptation of the intellectual property either. If you’re looking to play Clue, then this is definitely that, but otherwise, stay away from this game.
