The big green button will give them either a riddle or an event. Riddles must be solved and then a challenge completed afterward while events usually tell players what to do. How To Play Jumanji The Board Game
Below, you’ll find how to play Jumanji the board game. I’m going to start with setup, move to what to do on your turn, then finish with how to win/how the game ends. Enjoy!
Setup
To set up, first, open the board game up. If you’re familiar with the Jumanji movie, then you’ll be pleased to know that when the board game is opened up, it’ll look just like it did in the movie.
Next, take all the cards in the game, shuffle them, then spread them out around the board. They’ll look kind of messy, but that’s okay because that’s the way they should look.
Each player will also get some amount of Life tokens. In a 2-player game, both players get 4 Life tokens. In a game with 3-4 players, all players get 3 Life tokens. Afterward, make sure the timer is assembled, then pick someone to start!
What To Do On Your Turn
On a player’s turn, they will roll both numbered dice (there are also challenge dice that have symbols on them) and move that many spaces forward. Afterward, they will press the big green button in the middle, which will give them a riddle or an event.
Riddles
They’re allowed to study the riddle and even discuss it with the other people at the table. At some point though, they need to pick one of the cards scattered around the game board. Once they’ve picked, they press the big green button again, which will show them the answer.
Getting the answer right means you get to move forward one more space, and it also means you get to perform the challenge on the back of the card. If you fail the challenge then something bad could happen such as losing a life. If you succeed, the player to your left takes their turn.
Events
For events, the big green button will show a picture. This picture will match one of the events in the rulebook’s Event section. Checking this section and finding that picture will tell you what to do.
You could end up moving backward, losing a life, doing something silly like stomping imaginary spiders on the floor, or even rolling the challenge dice.
How To Win/How The Game Ends
There are two ways Jumanji the board game ends. The first way is that someone reaches the big green button in the center of the board. If they do, they yell, “Jumanji!” then hold the big green button down until it tells you that you won, and everyone wins together.
The second way Jumanji ends is if a player runs out of Life tokens. If they run out of Life tokens then everyone loses.
The game does give you a way to deal with this though. If a player runs out of Life tokens, other players can give them some so they can stay alive. That’s pretty cool!
